Iggy's Ice Cream

Photographer: Gail Murray
Date: May 2, 2004
Place: Leetsdale, PA
Why this sign?
Iggys caught my eye with its retro lettering and illustration It wasnt until I put the image into my viewfinder that I discovered another delightful treat. Not only could you get ice cream and pizza at this handy one stop shoppe, you could pick up your bait there also.

Has anyone else noticed how many local women "of a certain age" have modeled their hairstyles after the iconic soft ice cream cone?
Some of these women have been powerful, like former Pittsburgh mayor Sophie Masloff, who gave the city the blue-and-white street signs I adore because you can't miss the delightfully named Ways. My two favorites -- Asterisk Way in Friendship (hold that explanatory note!) and Felix Way in Shadyside, whose sign is misspelled "Flelix" on the Spahr St. side. (Did the famous cartoon cat have fleas?)
