Second Gear

Why this sign?
Actually there are three signs, one on Hermitage Street, and two on Lang Avenue. I had to wonder what went on there. Was it a bike shop? A contractor? In any case, I found out that at one time, one of the buildings had a bakery. In fact the bake oven is still there, according to [a now dead website] this website. Apparently there were plans to turn it into a living history museum. But I'd definitely like to know more. So if anyone has any information, please leave a comment.

We at the University of Michigan have a program, which I envisioned decades ago, called IMAGINING AMERICA. It is directed by Dr. Julie Ellison. This program focuses on public engagement, place, site, and neighborhood as teaching and learning strategies. At SECOND GEAR LIVING MUSEUM AND LIBRARY we do all of this. This site preserves a portion of a 120 year old neighborhood in order to show a story, history, and social process in America. this is a learning site available twenty-four seven with much more intensity available by appointment
