Junction Pharmacy

Why this sign?
Great landmark at an important intersection. Pretty retro and getting a little beat up. When I first came to town 23 years ago, I was impressed by the pristine condition of the sign. It just kind of invited you in to have a chocolate malt, vanilla creme, cherry phosphate, or whatever you have in such places.

What a great shot! So, so glad to see the Junction! I worked here for 15+ years! A staple in the community, a great place in it;s day for certain. A place to meet and have a cup of joe, talk Steeler's every Monday am with Dave Shorr (the owner) a place to get an ice cream, find a city cop!! Shame you didn't snap a shot earlier BEFORE the original Coke signs disappeared! I had always told Dave I wanted the signs, they were 40+ years old. They were stolen this past fall. Such fond memories the Junction brings to mind, such a shame to see it abandoned now. Thank you for having this on your site!

The Junction was there when I was a child, a trip to the playground in Frick Park always meant ice cream or a popsicle. During the Christmas holidays, Dave had a real Christmas tree in the store. Sadly this landmark will most likely be demolished to make way for what ??
Thanks for the great photo.

When I questioned why this place was suddenly locked up someone (the crossing guard probably) told me it was because the owner was illegally selling drugs and that it wasn't the first time he'd been in trouble. In the year before it closed it was dirty, understocked, and depressing, but sold delicious ice cream at a ridiculously low price. This is an important corner so let's hope a fun or useful, and attractive, retail business ends up here.

If I had to bet money, I would say it is going to be torn down and replaced with a Walgreens. They *love* tearing down landmarks.

Junction's Slush Puppy machine was the self-serve kind where you could add as much flavor syrup as you wanted.
Fond memories of the first playground trip of the spring with Cadbury MiniEggs from Junction, too.

My father and I always went to the Junction when I was little. He and Dave went to high school together and remained friends until my father's death. Every day after school at CDS, Dad went to the Pharmacy to "talk grown-up business" with Dave. He always gave me free candy, a Clark Bar or a Cadbury Egg. I loved to look at the two dollar toys on the black rack by the counter.

Thank you for having this picture on the site. It brings back so many memories!

Hey Cheryl! I worked there with you when I was in Pharmacy School at Duquesne University. It was between 1986-1990.
