The Tongue Offends

TongueOffends.JPG
Photographer: Susan Constanse
Date: September 2004
Place: 15th Street, near the corner of 15th and E. Carson St. (The sign is over a breezeway between a home and a business.)
Why this sign?
I had just gotten a digital camera and was out practicing with it. I caught this flash of light color along 15th, above eye level. I thought it was really an odd sentiment to post over a gate. While I was
working with the camera, holding it over my head, playing with the zoom, a man came out of the garage next door.

"If you don't mind my asking, what is it you find so fascinating?" he asked.

"This little sign." I gestured to the top of the gate.

"What sign?" He walked over, looked up and read it. Raising his eyebrows he said "It's first time I've seen it."

"Really? It looks like its been there a long time."

"I've been here longer than you've been alive and I never noticed it." he shook his head, walking back into his garage.

Pittsburgh has a richness of detail.

Thanks for spotting this Susan. The sign is quirky, delightful, and the setting picturesque. It's amazing how shooting with a camera, or just thinking about shooting, changes your perceptions.
