Cats and Dogs

Photographer: Kaitlin Bisdee
Date: January 24, 2005
Place: South Side
Why this sign?
I took this picture because I found what the sign said to be very different from other signs. I liked how it said "Food for the Irresponsible". I wasn't really sure what it meant but I thought it would make a good picture.
Pictures submitted by Manchester Craftsmen's Guild photography students for their social documentary course "Reality Check," lead by staff artist Dror Yaron.

The owner used to vend chicken on a stick in the alley across the street. Savvy customers, suspecting that the protein might be sourced from another animal, referred to the food as cat-on-a-stick, and other names. It stuck, and they eventually got a storefront. Outright advertisement of the food source should justify the 'irresponsible bit' Ummmm.... tabby is my favorite.

Actually, Cats & Dogs is no longer in business and was not related to the Food Cart across the alley at all. They were a different business. Neither business survived.
