Bobby's

Why This Sign?
Okay, so this one belongs in multpile categories (Fish + Cocktail Lounge + South Hills). I like the combination of stone and neon. Bobby's Bar sits quietly along ravaged Route 51. Anyone out there try the fish?

I remember this sign from when I was a young girl in the early 70's. The "bubbles" in the cocktail used to "bubble up" in a pattern so that it looked as though the drink was "fizzy"
There was a pet grooming place nearby that had a neon dog (a poodle perhaps?) that "sat up" that I enjoyed seeing. These were landmarks I would look for returning from family gatherings "in the city" to our home in the south hills.
Fond memories

Yeah! From the ages of 3 to 9 (1965 - 1971) I lived on the first street up the hill behind Bobby's. My parents sold one of their cars to the owner. There used to be a paint store, Sternberger's, in the chalet-shaped building across 51 from Bobby's and the building that used to be the pet shop. Sternberger's sign was a huge, rotating paint can, right on the highway, about 15 above the parking lot. And is the Outdoor Army and Navy store still next door to Bobby's? I used to think it said "Cutdoor" when I was little.
