Wow! I remember this bakery. In fact, in my memoirs Stagno’s holds very fond memories for me. "...The Nabisco factory might not have been gracious enough to share their treats, but Stagno’s Bakery certainly was! The main distributor for Stagno’s Bakery was located cater-cornered behind our Frankstown Avenue apartment, and they had the best pastries in our kingdom. Once a week, the employees of Stagno’s would offer free to brothers Duane and Michael all that they could carry in one trip! It was exciting to watch my brothers maneuver their way back towards the apartment; arms clasping securely to stacks of bread, rolls, and pies tucked underneath their chins. Much of what they were permitted to take was soon to expire; some already had, but we appreciated the kindness all the same. Occasionally an expired loaf of bread or cake was spotted with mold, which we simply dug out before eating. Food was food – we never turned any of it away...." Thanks for taking the photo, Mark! Sincerely, Frieda A. Adkins (Brown).
